Team CommUNITY (TCU) is looking for a Portugal-based vendor who can partner with TCU events staff and leadership to implement the necessary logistics and operations to execute TCU’s second Global Gathering of digital rights leaders and subject matter experts following the COVID-19 pandemic.
We Are Looking for an Event Coordinator!
Team CommUNITY (TCU) is looking for an Event Coordinator to manage the complex logistics and sensitive communications necessary to support event planning at TCU. Our online programs and services offered to our network throughout the year culminate in an annual Global Gathering bringing together highly diverse, global participants with unique physical and digital security needs. Candidates should be collaborative and proactive problem solvers with a strong management sense and attention to detail. Candidates should have a demonstrable track record of community management, communications, and experience with diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). They should also have experience in international non-profit organizations.
Announcing the 2023 VPN Village!
The 2023 VPN Village is an online workshop series which includes several experts and users insights around the world. The sessions will be spread out during the last week of November and first week of December. VPN is a tool that allows users to protect their security and anonymity online and, in some cases, access censored content. This year the workshops will focus on regional user education, legal challenges to using VPNs, and using and scaling your own circumvention tools.
Global Gathering 2023 Recap & Team CommUNITY’s Future Plans
We are happy to report that Team CommUNITY’s first annual Global Gathering post-pandemic took place from September 15th to 17th, 2023. This year’s “alpha” event was a success as part of a three-year vision to grow the event to the impact, size, and scope achieved pre-pandemic in a sustainable way that prioritizes the safety of our community.

TCU Featured on Portugal’s Most-Watched News Program After Meet and Greet Event
IUS OMNIBUS, a Portugal-based citizen protection and digital rights organization, organized an event to welcome the Team CommUNITY’s Global Gathering to Portugal. In attendance were diverse Portuguese civil society organizations, companies, government officials, and open source community leaders. We had the opportunity to present our three-year vision, and begin discussions on how it could better support the local Portuguese community in coming years.

Team CommUNITY’s regional briefs for the month of July are out! Find the latest news on digital justice issues in the Latin America, MENA, Africa and Asia regions. This month you can find information on loan apps in Mexico, a comparative evaluation of cybercrime laws in the MENA region, updates about digital security training in Sub-Saharan Africa, plus plenty of job opportunities in the Asian digital rights space. These are the last briefs from the 2022-2023 community leads cohort and we are deeply thankful for their work strengthening our community building!
How We are Approach Safety, Security and Challenges for the Global Gathering
The Global Gathering in Portugal is less than three months away and we think it's important to recap the challenges we are facing and what we are doing as Team CommUNITY in response to them. This is our first annual event after the Covid pandemic and is part of a 3-year vision to grow the space in a more sustainable and safe way to the size pre-pandemic.
