Responsible to: Event Lead and Deputy Director of Team CommUNITY
Key relationships: Communications Team and Operations Team
Contract: Part-time, Fixed Term Contract, January to October 2024, possibility for renewal
Location: Portugal
Rate: $40 per hour, 20 + hours per week. *Depending on experience
Role Purpose
This position is responsible for managing the complex logistics and sensitive communications necessary to support event planning at Team CommUNITY. Our online programs and services offered to our network throughout the year culminate in an annual Global Gathering bringing together highly diverse, global participants with unique physical and digital security needs. Candidates should be collaborative and proactive problem solvers with a strong management sense and attention to detail. Candidates should have a demonstrable track record of community management, communications, and experience with diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). They should also have experience in international non-profit organizations.
Key responsibilities
Overall, the Event Coordinator plays a central role in supporting the Global Gathering, Team CommUNITY’s flagship event on digital rights. This support is focused on providing logistical, communications, and community management related insight, planning and execution.
Research and liaise with diverse vendors, including and especially vendors associated with event production and security.
Provide community development and logistical support for participants. This includes supporting and coordinating participant verification.
Support the Event Lead with creating and maintaining a communications and outreach plan and liaising with the TCU communication lead to ensure brand and voice are consistent across all Global Gathering materials, emails, digital communications, social media, website and wiki.
Support the TCU staff to develop branding for the 2024 Global Gathering.
Support the TCU staff with additional communications and logistical support for TCU community initiatives and side events (e.g. VPN Community Initiative) that feed into the Global Gathering.
Role Requirements
Must be based in Portugal.
Must be fluent in English with a high level of Spanish and Portuguese proficiency.
Must have expertise in community management, preferably managing a global community.
Must have strong cross-cultural communication skills.
Must have experience serving vulnerable and historically marginalized groups, including a familiarity with diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) approaches and strategies.
