Title: Operations Manager

Responsible to: Head of Team CommUNITY, Deputy Head of Team CommUNITY

Key relationships: ARTICLE 19’s Projects and Finance Teams

Contract: Fixed Term Contract from August 2023 to April 2024, possibility for renewal

Location: Remote, based anywhere with working hours overlapping UTC+02:00 and UTC-05:00

Rate: 6250 USD per month

Role Purpose

This position is responsible for executing operational and financial due diligence of Team CommUNITY's programs and services. Using strong management, interpersonal skills, and financial acumen, this position is expected to support the strategic direction for long-term sustainability of Team CommUNITY. The successful individual will have a demonstrable track record of financial and operational management, across diverse geographies and communities. They will also have experience in international non-profit organizations. 

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain effective and efficient operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures;

  • Initiate and deliver financial and other reports to donors;

  • Ensure contracts, donations are managed effectively and with due diligence checks carried out regularly;

  • Oversee team budgeting, and the implementation of programmatic budgets, so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics to internal and external stakeholders;

  • Oversee the development and delivery and reporting of operational plans and goals, in line with the strategic plan; and within agreed budgets and timescales.

  • Support the Head of Team in managing and implementing programs that advance the digital rights and internet freedom communities;

  • When needed, assist in the development and facilitation of our virtual programming; 

  • Ensure external and internal communications are timely and in-line with strategic goals.

  • Working with contractors, oversee the backend of various technology platforms.


Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years experience of non-profit or movement grant / operational management

  • Prior experience in USG grants support or management

  • Excellent financial management skills

  • You are flexible. We are a distributed team and remote work isn't for everyone: it requires discipline and the ability to work independently, communicate daily over several different platforms, and be flexible to accommodate meetings across multiple time zones. 

  • Proven ability to initiate, improve and manage operational systems, particularly in a multi-donor environment

  • Experience with program management or overseeing multi-timeline or multiple projects at once 

  • Strong analytical skills, with good attention to forward planning and achieving strategic objectives combined with proven capacity to manage procedures and detail

  • Ability to self-direct and self-start, to work well under pressure, manage tight deadlines, and to prioritize the management of a heavy workload 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including fluency in written and spoken English

  • High level of emotional intelligence

  • Experience with information, digital, or organization security protocols and practices is highly desirable
