Team CommUNITY is excited to join Bread&Net 2021, an annual unconference that promotes and defends digital rights. Hosted by SMEX, Bread&Net is a platform built for and sustained by hundreds of activists, technologists, journalists, researchers, lawyers, academics, entrepreneurs, and human rights defenders from around the world, with a particular focus on digital rights and digital freedoms in Arabic-speaking countries.

Inspiration from the Caribbean: Innovation, Resistance and Resilience

The Caribbean has experienced one of the most violent and oppressive histories in the world, while having limited resources and being subjected to extreme forces of nature because of their geography. Despite this all, the Caribbean can be an inspiration of resistance for many movements around the world.
In this collaborative discussion, we will learn strategies of resistance and resilience the Caribbean population have implemented, being an example for many movements around the world.
What Does It Mean To Host A Digital Rights Event Online

In this panel discussion, Nikki Gladstone from RightsCon, Trinh Nguyen from Team CommUNITY @ Article 19, and Sarah Allen from Mozfest, moderated by Bread&Net Coordinator Moussa Saleh, discuss the pros and drawbacks of hosting digital rights events virtually. The speakers address the following questions: What are the challenges to creating such spaces? How do online events facilitate accessibility? And what are the dynamics between the digital rights community and internet companies?
Community Health Report & The Future
When: 26 November 2021, 16:00–17:00 Beirut time
Who: Selma Zaki, Director of Community Mental Health Program and Rima Sghaier, Senior Community Operations Manager and MENA Regional Lead at Team CommUNITY
Selma Zaki is a Lebanese mental health professional and was hired by Team CommUNITY to conduct a Community Health Report of the digital rights community. Based on the findings, she will be designing psychosocial services for the digital rights community. She will share the findings of the report and get feedback from folks. This session will be co-hosted with Rima, Team CommUNITY’s Senior Community Operations Manager, has been leading the MENA regional meetup group. In addition to presenting the findings, they will host a collaborative conversation to get feedback from participants on their experiences in the last year, and provide advice on mental health and community health.
During this session, Selma and Rima, will be sharing the findings of the Community Health Report (2020) of the digital rights community, through a psychosocial approach.
